Hollywood Gossip | Hot or Not: Sofia Vergara
There has been sensation over the lack of Latinos nominated for Emmy awards over the multiple decades that the statue has been given out and even more grumbling about how it took until 2007 before a Latina was nominated in a major category (America Ferrera for "Ugly Betty"), so it's nice that this week's Hot or Not selection got to see her name on the list, even if she didn't bring home the gold on Sunday night. Perhaps she can be lifted up by your love here.
Sofia Vergara
I remember Vergara vaguely for her small contributions in movies like LORDS OF DOGTOWN, FOUR BROTHERS and BIG TROUBLE. I'm not someone who knocks Tyler Perry films simply for the sake of knocking a successful black writer/director because I just haven't had any interest in his movies because they look silly, so I'm unfamiliar with why he has great love for the Latina, casting her regularly. All in all, I can't say that it's been any of her acting that has caused me to pause and take notice of Sofia.
Nah, I'm not the television fan who ran out to catch the hype surrounding "Modern Family," being that I don't pick up on most shows until after they've been released on DVD. It was, for me, seeing Vergara be her witty and blackly humourous self on "Chelsea Lately," that caught my attention when I randomly stumbled on the show one night. (I often forget that Chelsea airs on E! and find myself cursing at the Comedy Central channel when my wee brain can't process why they're not airing it.) It was listening to her peppered accent and bawdy laughter as her heaving, hefty cleavage bubbled under her chin that got me to think that she was more than just your average hot tamale.
While some might say that this is a no brainer, that - duh! Is this even a question?!?! - I won't assume that everyone else is in cahoots with me when it comes down to Vergara's appeal. She's a 38 year old mother who loves to eat, doesn't find herself ruled by the Pilates gods that all the other women on TV bow down to, and her breasts could only look more comfortable if they came with a Snuggie bonus gift if you order now! This still doesn't mean that everyone is going to think she's a babe. Of course, a certain percentage of the population has to be legally insane, right?
